Having a Man of Honor Instead of a Matron of Honor...
Today, most of us young women have a very close
male best friend forever (BFF), instead of a female BFF... So what do you do in
the event that you’re planning your wedding and you want your male BFF to
participate as your Man of Honor instead of a Matron of Honor? First and
foremost, let’s break down what a Man of Honor is. A Man of Honor
is a male version of a bride's Maid of Honor.
Unlike a Best Man,
a Man of Honor is selected by the bride. It’s not traditional and the traditional
people such as your parents or family may look at you in a strange way. But the
facts are that it’s your day Bride and you want the people standing with you
that mean the most to you. Let’s break down his duties to make him stand out
and differentiate him from your groomsmen.
- One way to
distinguish your Man of honor from the best man is through a wedding
website. Post his picture (along with all the bridal and groom party
members) so that anyone that visits the site will know all about him and
recognize him on the special day!
- I'm not
having a "Man of Honor" but I am having a "Bridesman",
is what I’ve been hearing some of the brides say lately. An idea to make
him different is that he will stand by the bride the day of the wedding,
but for pre-wedding stuff (bachelor/ette parties, etc.) he will
participate w/ the other guys.
- Remember
that men usually don't care as much about the details as women, so it's
likely that discussions about flowers, dresses, favors, etc might not go
over well. Instead of focusing on coming up with
"responsibilities" and trying to make him feel equal to your
bridesmaids, let him know that you asked him to be by your side because
you care about him, and that all you really want from him is to be there
smiling right alongside you in the pictures on your wedding day.
Above all, when it comes to making opposite-sex
attendant decisions, your wedding is precisely that: yours. There are no
hard-and-fast rules so do what makes you absolutely HAPPY!!!!
